ABOUT
Hello. I’m Laura — designer, planner, and the person behind Urban Selections & Design.

I started this studio because I believe something simple and profound: the spaces we inhabit shape us. Not just aesthetically, but deeply — our nervous systems, our creativity, our sense of ease and belonging. The way light moves through a room, the weight of a countertop material, the flow between spaces — these things affect how we feel every single day, whether we’re conscious of them or not.
That belief didn’t arrive fully formed. It has a specific origin.
Shortly after moving to Denver in 2000, I discovered that the city was planning to transform the old Stapleton Airport site into what would become one of the largest urban infill redevelopments in the country — a master-planned, mixed-use community built on principles of sustainability, walkability, and intentional neighborhood design. I was completely captivated. The scale of it, the ambition, the idea that you could design not just a building but a way of living — it lit something up in me. That project, now the Central Park neighborhood where I’ve lived for over 15 years, is what led me to pursue a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning, and it permanently shaped how I think about design.
I learned early that the built environment isn’t backdrop. It’s infrastructure for human life — and it matters at every scale, from how a city plans its streets to how a kitchen is laid out.

My Approach
My work centers on the decisions that carry the most weight: space planning, cabinetry, and the hard finish selections that define a home’s character from the inside out. I work closely with each client and project. I ask a lot of questions. I want to understand not just what you want the space to look like, but how you want to feel inside it — and what’s getting in the way of that right now.
Urban Selections & Design operates as a boutique studio. I take on a limited number of projects at a time so I can stay closely involved throughout the design and construction process — from early layout conversations through final selections. That’s not a constraint. It’s a choice, and it’s how I do my best work.
The Path Here
I began working in residential design in 2015, consulting for a Denver custom homebuilder before launching Urban Selections & Design. Over time, the studio has grown into something more intentional — a clear point of view, a defined way of working, and a deeper understanding of what I want to build and why.

I also spent 15 years earlier in my career managing complex, high-stakes projects inside large organizations — work that required precision, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to earn trust with people at every level. That foundation makes me a stronger design partner: someone who understands not just the creative side of this work, but how to execute it inside real projects, with real timelines and real constraints.
What I Believe
A well-designed home shouldn’t feel like a showroom.
It should feel like an exhale — like the space was made for you, knows you, and gives you room to be yourself.
I care about creating environments that help people soften, settle, and reconnect. That’s not just an aesthetic goal. It’s the whole point.
Where I Work
